Devoted Husband, Father and Dispenser of Wisdom

Obituary

Einar Stanton Ross passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19th 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO, with his wife of 67 years at his side. Einar was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather known for his devotion to those he loved, his extraordinary work ethic and the wisdom he shared with all around him.

Einar was born on June 5th, 1931 in Henderson Township, Minnesota, the middle son of Einar Anders Ross and Carma Juanita Ross (nee Stanton). Einar developed his work ethic on his family farm while still finding time to be a student, an athlete and a friend. He graduated from Claremont High School in the spring of 1947 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. Einar rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for service during the Korean War as well as the Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the armed forces in 1954 he quickly received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and achieved his CPA in 1959.

Einar fell in love with numbers throughout the course of his education. Being sent to the principal's office for disciplinary reasons, the principal instead taught him the math he would need to excel in his accounting courses. He joined the firm of Touche, Niven, Bailey and Smart in Minneapolis in 1955 and would spend his entire career there under its various incarnations (including both Touche Ross and Deloitte). He was first named Supervisor of Audits in 1961 at the Minneapolis office. Einar was then entrusted with the responsibility of opening the firm's new branch across the river and served as the first manager in St Paul. In 1965 he was made a partner and remained at this branch until his move in 1982 to become the Partner in Charge of the St. Louis, Missouri office. In 1989 he was selected as the firm's Professional Practice Director and began his well-deserved retirement in 1994. His work was honored by both the Minnesota Society of CPAs and the Missouri Society of CPAs in 1996 and 2003, respectively.

His motivation to succeed for himself and his clients was matched only by his devotion to his family and community. Einar married his beloved wife and companion Eloise B. Ross (nee Erwin) on February 13th of 1954. Together they raised 6 children and were blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who have spread the Ross name and legacy across the country, from Minnesota to Florida to Arizona. Their home has always been open to and filled with family. They were routinely joined for adventures in the pool, rounds of golf at Bellerive Country Club and countless holiday celebrations. Einar was a generous donor and active participant in the many community organizations he loved. He was recognized by the Missouri Historical Society and served as treasurer in 1989 and was the Chair of the Board of Directors at Provident Counseling beginning in 1992.

Einar Ross is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Carma Alice Ebenhoe (James) and Thorild Ross (Mag), his daughter Merri and his great-grandson. He is survived by his wife Ellie Ross, his children Jacki (Deb), Chip, Valerie, Eric (Lily) and James.

A celebration of the extraordinary life of Einar Ross will be held at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church in St. Louis on October 29th, 2021 at 11:00 am.
